"Making a Difference" a financial blog with a human heart
Let’s be honest, the financial industry has a bit of a reputation. It’s often seen as cold, transactional, and buried under a mountain of confusing jargon. When I first started my career at Prudential Securities back in 1986, I spent nine years learning the ropes of a large brokerage house. I quickly realized that the large-scale corporate model, focused heavily on product sales and quotas, just wasn't suited to my personality, or to the true needs of the clients I wanted to serve.
I knew there had to be a better way. So in 1995, I took a leap of faith to build a different kind of financial services company: Scharf Group.
I didn’t get into this business to stare at spreadsheets all day; I got into it for one simple reason: to make a difference in people's lives. That core mission is exactly why I am launching this blog.
What This Blog Is (and What It Isn’t)
This won't be a place where I just rattle off market percentages, regurgitate the latest stock trends, or bury you in financial jargon. There are plenty of places on the internet for that. Instead, this space is going to be a direct window into how we think, how we work, and most importantly, who we serve.
Moving forward, I'm going to be posting here regularly to share:
